About Lizzy

Lizzy (Elizabeth G.) Wilbanks is a PhD student in Microbiology at the University of California, Davis, and works in the labs of Drs. Jonathan Eisen and Marc Facctiotti.  Lizzy is finishing up her PhD in the summer of 2014 and moving on to a postdoctoral position with Dr. Victoria Orphan at Caltech in September 2014.

She's a huge geek about the things microbes eat (metabolism) and gets really excited about mud that smells like rotten eggs (sulfide!). Her research combines genomics with methods from geology to take a peek at the world from the microbial perspective.

Outside the lab, Lizzy spends most of her time with her wife Nell Barash and their macroscopic zoo (dogs, cats, turtle, snake, horse).  A founding member of the Subcommittee on Eukaryotic Fermentation in the UC Davis Microbiology Grad Group, Lizzy's a major beer nerd and homebrewing enthusiast.  When she's not chasing microbes, Lizzy might be finding another excuse to get muddy, salty, tired, or cold outside like swimming, hiking, surfing or skiing.
